The Studio Notes Newsletter 💌

A short, sweet, and to the point newsletter from an illustrator, book designer, and all around busy bee. 🐝 By day, I work in the publishing industry as a book designer and illustrator. By night, I indulge in my inspirations and grow my creative business with slow, intentional steps. Every month, you'll get insights into living a creative life, what's currently inspiring me, behind the scenes peeks of works in progress, the stories behind the work, and occasional freebies.

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 Sept. Edition

Studio Note 09/25 Hello Reader, I realized too late that I had labeled August's Studio Notes as "July". I couldn't correct this after the newsletter went out, so I hope it didn't cause much confusion! I can't tell if fall is approaching, but there are more leaves on the ground than expected for this time of year. Perhaps the summer heat has made the trees give up? I'm personally ready for sweater weather. 🍂 August was filled with easing back into old routines (ie, school) and work work work....

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 July Edition

Studio Note 07/25 Hello Reader, I hope July was good to you. It has been unbearably hot at times, so I have spent most of my time indoors. It's definitely a blessing to have central A/C in such a hot and humid climate. Art Notes I haven't had much time nor energy this month to paint much. I'm trying to scale back the size of my work as well as the expectations of perfection of them. I completed this sketchbook spread inspired by the Unicorn Tapestries and a simple question : if unicorns wore...

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 July Edition

Studio Note 07/25 Hello Reader, Hard to believe half of the year is over, and we're on the downward slope towards the winter, isn't it? I'm normally drawn to moodier themes in the fall, after the weather turns and temperatures are cool and crisp, but I find myself itching to explore some darker themes in my work. I've been wanting to paint swords and armor for ages (reading "The Knight and the Moth" by Rachel Gillig isn't helping), but I've held back because of that nagging voice that says,...

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 June Edition

Studio Note 06/25 Hey there! I hope May treated you well. It has been raining a lot here! The outside plants and bushes are happy about it, but I miss seeing sunlight. There have been more cloudy days than sunny lately. I've been embracing imperfect productivity lately, and I've felt a lot more relaxed about creating and being "productive" in whatever capacity I can manage at the moment. My pain levels have been pretty high lately, and it has impacted my motivation to do much of anything, but...

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 May Edition

Studio Note 05/25 Happy May! I'll keep this intro short and sweet and let you get to reading these little notes so you can mosey on with your day.P.S. I hope April was great for you and hope May is even better! Art Notes I started a new series I'm calling "Neighbors". It's all about the animals and flora found around my home. We have many trees on our lot, and it really feels like living in your own little forest, especially when I see a group of deer or a little rabbit around. "Fox and...

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 April Edition

Studio Note 04/25 Hello friend! I hope March treated you well. It was the first "normal" feeling month of the year for me. I can't believe Q1 is already over, though. Time is a weird beast, isn't it? Art Notes I felt like studying some very old and very twisted trees, so I spent a few days in my sketchbook with them. The tall, skinny one on the right is by far my favorite. Somehow I managed to capture light when I was really focusing on shadow! Painted in gouache with some color pencil...

A new Studio Note has arrived! 💌 March Edition

Studio Note 03/25 Hello again friend, Welcome to March! I can't believe we're approaching the end of Q1 already. January felt like an entire year, February went by in a blink. Flower bulbs are sprouting in my yard and leaf buds are appearing on trees. Spring is right around the corner in my area! I hope you're staying warm in this lingering winter weather. Art Notes I finished up this Sailor Moon Classical Art crossover piece called "Moon Tears". A full process write-up plus color mixtures...

A New Studio Note Has Arrived! 💌 February Edition

Studio Note 02/25 Hello friend! Welcome to February! I hope your January was well. I completed another trip around the sun, stepped into my next decade of life, and had a childhood wish come true - snow for my birthday. I've recently swapped my email newsletter host from Mailchimp to Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Some of the subscription preferences you may have selected before might not have transferred over well, so I encourage you to update your preferences now so you'll get messages you...
